Alarm for Sofia Goggia. After the cancellation of the Garmisch super-G and the postponement until tomorrow, the Olympian of the descent fell in the phase in which the athletes left the starting area to reach the parterre. Sofia was alone and fell right in the area where the fog was stationed which led to the cancellation of the test. At the moment the testimonies are still confused, but Sofia was brought downstream with a toboggan. The doctors of the blue team preferred not to take her to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen hospital, given the Covid emergency in Germany. The athlete was thus put in the car for Milan: upon his arrival he will immediately undergo checks. The first diagnosis speaks of sprain trauma of the right knee. Still premature any conclusion, but there is apprehension for his knees, in the past victim of serious injuries.
The Fisi should soon issue a statement on its conditions. The Garmisch track tied hand in glove, for better or for worse, to Sofia Goggia. It was there, in January 2019, that the Olympian found the podium after injuring a fibula in the previous autumn; that result would have been the viaticum for the silver in the super-G at the Aare World Championship. But on the same track, a year ago, Sofia fell in super-G and broke her left forearm ending the season. After months of a difficult recovery, even on a human level, the Italian champion was back in great shape and so far, with three wins and a second place, she was dominating downhill. The hope that this injury is not serious and that Sofia can participate in the World Cup starting next week.
