Until Sunday the Italian team championships. The organizers Occhiuzzi and Oliva are satisfied: happy to be back for Tokyo from Naples
First day of the stars ai Absolute Italian Fencing Championships to Teams, al PalaVesuvio of Naples. The event will be held until Sunday and sees some of the protagonists of Italian fencing on the platform, also in view of the Tokyo Olympics, which depart on July 24th. The women’s team final went to the Carabinieri Sports Center (Martina Batini, Claudia Borella, Arianna Errigo, Martina Sinigallia) on the Fiamme Oro Roma (Vittoria Ciampalini, Martina Favaretto, Erika Cipressa, Alice Volpi), while in third place came Comense Scherma ( Elena Varisco, Irene De Biasio, Carlotta Ferrari, Arianna Proietti), Yellow Flames Fencing Group (Olga Rachele Calissi, Serena Rossini, Camilla Mancini, Beatrice Monaco). In the men’s team foil the Carabinieri Sports Center (Alessio Di Tommaso, Tommaso Martini, Andrea Cassara ‘, Damiano Rosatelli) imposed itself on the Fiamme Oro Roma (Filippo Macchi, Francesco Ingargiola, Edoardo Luperi, Tommaso Marini), while in third place he classified the Aeronautica Militare Sports Center (Andrea Baldini, Alessio Foconi, Lorenzo Nista, Alessandro Paroli).
She rejoices in the triumph with her companions Arianna Errigo, silver in individual foil and gold in team foil in London 2012, multiple medalist at World and European Championships: Naples is a fundamental step towards the Tokyo Games, in which we have no competitions, we have no feedback. We are not yet in top form, now being on the platform serves to test ourselves in the race, after a long period of training only. For me, Naples is part of a path towards the Games, in which I obviously aim to reach the top of all, thus redeeming the disappointment of Rio 2016. Alice Volpi, gold at the 2018 World Cup in Wuxi, defeated with his team in the final, underlines the importance of the Italian Championships in Naples: it was really a decisive test, the condition of all an unknown, we lost but it was a beautiful day of sport, I shot well and I’m sure I trained well for the Tokyo Games too. In general, it’s great to compete in Naples, a fantastic city that I will visit over the weekend. Among men, the absolute protagonist was Andrea Cassar, bronze medal in foil at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, happy for the final success with his companions at the Carabinieri Sports Center: Naples an excellent signal for a restart for fencing and for Italian sport, we come from a difficult period in which we are well trained but with little evidence available to test our condition. Also for this reason the Italian Championships in Naples are a great event for our movement.
Satisfied with the first day of the Championships Diego Occhiuzzi, co-organizer of the competition together with Patrizio Oliva: it was a triumph of sport to see some of the best Italian and world fencers competing, a few weeks before the Olympic Games. We are happy that Naples has greeted the restart of Italian fencing. We have received compliments from everyone for organizing the Championships – says Patrizio Oliva -, it’s great to see smiles on people’s faces. We are seeing some of the next Olympic champions at work, considering the Italian tradition of fencing, but above all the message of sport being passed. Despite the difficulties, life continues, we get up and fight, always. Tomorrow, on the second day of competition, the men’s sword team tournament is scheduled, on the platform among others Paolo Pizzo, Matteo Tagliariol, Marco Fichera and Andrea Santarelli. In the women’s tournament, on the other hand, Rossella Fiamingo and Mara Navarria are expected, among others. Sunday is the turn of the male and female saber. (source agencies)
