The public returns, in safety and regulated by anti-contagion regulations, to the Trento Festival of Economics, now in its sixteenth edition, the second at the time of the pandemic and the most “international” ever, with a share of foreign protagonists who by now the Italian interventions are equalized. From 3 to 6 June in the public spaces of the city, and on digital platforms, five other Nobel laureates, many ministers of the Draghi government, many big names will participate to discuss the theme “The return of the State. Businesses, communities, institutions”.
The exit from the emergency, as explained by the scientific director of the Festival Tito Boeri in the presentation press conference, it is an opportunity “to analyze what has happened in this year that has seen the state play a primary role in the lives of citizens and discuss how to redesign the borders of the state, strengthen its presence where it exists. there is a greater need by planning their retreat elsewhere. What must the public sector do for its citizens and what instead it must limit itself solely to regulating and leaving to private initiative – is the basic question posed by Boeri – And how to treat the private sector that does not limit itself to pursuing its own individual interests or enterprise, but which is organized in communities, in Third sector associations, capable of dealing with the common good as, if not better, with the public sector? “.
For the publisher Giuseppe Laterza, creator and organizer of the Festival with Innocenzo Cipolletta that the editorial committee takes care of it, «if there is a historical passage in which it is necessary to be far-sighted it is this. And the many extraordinary meetings in Trento offer us the opportunity to open our minds, to wear new lenses for the new world. There is debate in these hours about the fact that rich countries are not doing enough for poor ones plagued by the health emergency. The future of the world lies in collaboration, no longer in competition. And it is one of the paradigm changes that will be discussed at the Festival which for 16 years has seen participation always growing and represents a unique case in the world ».
