When Akheem Mesidor he entered the transfer portal in March, it was such a big deal that west virginia Head Coach Neal Brown he did something most coaches don’t do when a player enters the portal — he scheduled a press conference to discuss Mesidor’s decision.

A two-time All-Big 12 selection, Mesidor appeared in 22 games and recorded 70 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. Culture, culture, culture. Coaches preach it, but the transfer window and the instant era of college athletics are definitely testing it. Which brings us to Clemson.

Dabo Swinney lost defensive coordinator Brent Venables on Oklahoma and offensive coordinator Tony Elliott on Virginiahowever, the Tigers still have every player who participated in spring practices and preseason camp.

Clemson’s recruiting classes have ranked in the top 10 in Rivals’ team rankings every year since 2019, with one No. 2 finish during that time, so there’s plenty of talent on board to replace the few players who entered the portal last cycle. In fact, Clemson is considered by many to be a solid pick to win its seventh ACC title in eight years.

Can Jared Verse make the jump at the competitive level?

As a tight end in high school, Jared Verserecruitment did not include a single FBS scholarship offer. He switched positions during his freshman year at Albany and appeared in 15 games over two seasons, recording 74 tackles, including 21.5 tackles for loss with 14.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. Verse was a 2021 FCS Freshman All-American.

When he entered the portal in November, Verse became the hottest non-quarterback on the transfer market with more than 30 offers from some of college football’s most successful programs. He obliged state of Florida in January.

The verse is long, strong and athletic. If he makes the jump from FCS to FBS as expected, an All-ACC season is not out of the question.
