Simone Biles retires from the individual final at the Olympics –

He could participate in the individual specialty final. Simone will continue to be monitored, the US team said

Simone Biles also withdrew from the final of the general competition (in English it is called “all-around final”). The announcement comes after the forfeit given yesterday in the team final. Team USA reports that after further medical evaluation, the US gymnastics star, five-time world champion and ultra-favorite of Tokyo, has decided not to compete to focus on his mental health. Simone will continue to be monitored every day to understand whether to participate in the individual specialty final (in English “event finals”, ed), we read in the statement of the US team.

In the open competition Biles, 24, she will be replaced by Jade Carey. We fully support Simone’s decision and applaud his courage in giving priority to his well-being, continues the US team, his courage shows, once again, why he is a role model for so many people.

I no longer have faith in myself as before. I don’t know if it’s a question of age, the gymnast said at a press conference after yesterday’s forfeit. I feel like I’m not enjoying myself anymore. I know these are the Games, I wanted to play them, but in reality I am participating for others, more than for myself. It hurts me to think that doing what I love has been taken away from me. As soon as I step on the platform it’s just me and my head. And there are demons that I have to deal with.
