Zvonimir Boban has resigned from UEFA. The former AC Milan and Croatia champion was appointed “Head of football” by president Aleksander Ceferin in April 2021 and was responsible, among other things, for the creation of the UEFA Football Board and the Youth Football Forum. At the center of the issue and the resignation of the former Rossoneri player are the Statutes on presidential terms. A change judged to be incompatible with the values that the new UEFA should aspire to. In fact, after his election in September 2016, Ceferin introduced the limit of three presidential terms. Consequently in 2027 he would not have been able to reappear. A real earthquake, the Croatian announced his irrevocable resignation yesterday, even asking not to receive any severance pay. “I’m so sorry but, reluctantly, I’m leaving UEFA”: this is how the open letter written by the now former “Head of football” of Nyon, Zvone Boban, concludes. Ceferin himself had chosen Zvone as a personal advisor in ’21.
